Reduce unintended gun-related deaths and injury;
Keep the TASER CED out of the Gun-Hand

- PRIMARY GUARD
Restricting TASER CED use with the Gun-Hand is a bold concept. History holds the truth: Gun-Hand TASER CED use has been the consistent underlying factor in growing incidents across the country. The danger is not restricting the Gun-Hand, but in failing to do so. Primary Guard addresses the root cause of Weapon Confusion, while also providing a physical safeguard for Firearm Retention. We must enforce the separation of roles (less-lethal and lethal.)

The Root Cause of Weapon Confusion
(Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent.)
Primary Guard addresses the root cause of Weapon Confusion (cognitive overlap under stress.) By keeping the TASER CED out of the Gun-Hand, both during training and on-duty, this reinforces and trains the Support-Hand to an automatic stress-ready response. Considering the the Support-Hand cannot unholster the Firearm, this reduces the likelihood of the Firearm being mistakenly selected, when reaching for the TASER CED under stress.
e.g., When a subject is fleeing or resisting.

Firearm Retention Safeguard
(Safer Officers. Safer Encounters. Safer Communities.)
When we keep the TASER CED out of the Gun-Hand, this ensures that the Gun-Hand remains free to defend the Firearm in a struggle.
e.g., Law Enforcement Officers being disarmed affects everyone.

Switching Hands
Why is Primary Guard needed? "Switching Hands."
Because an Agency Policy alone cannot prevent the TASER CED from switching hands after unholstering. This is a practice, where the TASER CED is unholstered with the Support-Hand, and then is switched over to the Gun-Hand to be deployed. This may be a standard trained practice in some agencies, while in others it may be occurring non-consciously. We must enforce the separation of roles between less-lethal and lethal force, safeguard against switching hands with Primary Guard.
"After drawing the TASER with my Support-Hand and with one held at TASER point, I unknowingly switched it to my Gun-Hand.

Immediately, I felt the Primary Guard and switched the TASER back to my Support-Hand." - Brandon K. / Police Officer (Ca.)

"Now that a device like this exists, the question that prosecutors will be compelled to ask in future incidents like that of Minnesota; why did the agency not have Primary Guard?"
